Why Chose MAPS

In association with Omniperception and the DIB group, we’ve created a complete custody solution, starting with consistent image capture right through to witness album profiling. Using the DIB booth and image consistency, we can now into this suite of products. This permits the generation of witness albums based on a percentage facial match of the suspect, combined with the more traditional text field search criteria. After extensive research we consider some current systems to be outdated and difficult to manage. With this in mind we’ve set up a partnership with Omniperception and DIB to develop a better, easier-to-manage and user-friendly approach to make the job easier for both the officer and the customer.

The key to consistent digital imaging standards is through a complete software suite solution.

Technology

MAPS has been written exclusively for use in the police force current network infrastructure. It uses very little bandwidth and is capable of running in any network environment in the most extreme of force network bandwidth restrictions.

MAPS is written using the Microsoft DotNet 3.5 Technology. This utilises a web browser for the clients and an IIS server for the application. This means that the client footprint is virtually nothing and that the bandwidth required is that of running a simple web site (minimal at best) therefore giving no problems to systems currently running through your force network.

MAPS has been configured to allow Active Directory Logins so operators need only log into their own machine to gain access to the system at the correct user level. Operators can log into the system from any terminal in the police network system although the license only allows a set amount of users to log on at any one time.

Each Witness Album that is created is copied to CD, DVD, USB Key or Laptop Hard Drive the choice is yours. The Witness albums consist of a win32 application that runs on any Microsoft windows platform. The album self audits itself and builds a complete audit trail of what the witness has viewed and selected, this audit is then uploaded back into the server upon completion of a witness viewing so a complete start to finish audit trail of the entire process is achieved.

Why have we used partners for MAPS?
When MAPS was first conceived for Kent police it was seen as just being a stop gap product for Kent police but as time went on we found that more and more police forces were dissatisfied with their current witness album systems. So we put more development time into Maps and created a much more extensive solution after speaking to various forces across the country and getting their take on what a good witness album system should aspire too.

While doing this we met with 2 other companies that were doing projects along similar lines. Omni Perceptions and DW Group. We sat round a table and calculated that together we could create a one stop solution throughout the entire custody and identification procedure. Omni perceptions bring a professional tried and tested Facial Biometric image storage system application to the party (Codename Colossus) while DW Group bring a Passport style Booth for collecting the Image, video, clothing shots, DNA scans etc for a prisoner who has been brought into custody. We have now created a business synergy between ourselves that strengthens all 3 products in the market place and we regularly now travel around the country as a group of companies providing a complete custody solution for police forces.

Omni Perceptions Colossus System
Setting a Nationwide standard in digital image capture for identification and verification.

Omni Perceptions are responsible for the biometric Identification of suspects who are not just brought into custody but can also be captured in many other areas as well. The synergy with the tri solution is to bring a tried and tested facial and fingerprint identification to the custody suite.

The system has been tested in Mersey Side police for 18 months now and has shown some phenomenal results on accuracy and ability to ascertain exactly who the suspect is if they already have had their image captured on the system. This saves the officer a great deal of time and paper work in the processing of a suspect in custody.

Omni Perception, whose recognition systems took part in recent FIND tests (Facial Identification National Database as championed by NPIA (Nation Police Information Agency)), were at the London science museum to demonstrate why they think the answer to identification lies in the face.

Omni's Colossus face recognition system aims to provide fast and reliable authentication for physical and logical access control- and it certainly impressed crowds at the museum.
